Timothy W. (36) was found guilty of child molestation and false imprisonment. The verdict is expected in August. The process would probably never have happened without an attentive waitress. Because Flaviane Carvalho looked and noticed the child’s distress, the boy was saved from his violent stepfather.

“The boy has bruises and he is not eating”

If the 11-year-old hadn’t gone out to eat with his family at the “Mr. Potato” restaurant in Orlando, Florida, and met Flaviane Carvalho there, his ordeal might have lasted much longer. The attentive waitress immediately noticed something was wrong, she told police in January 2021. At first it seemed strange to her that no food had been ordered for the child. Even her stepfather’s explanation that everything was fine and that the boy would eat at home later did not ease her concerns.

“It struck me as very strange,” said Carvalho. “As I looked at the boy, I noticed a big scratch between his eyebrows. I started watching them. I could see that he was very quiet and seemed sad.” Finally, she wrote a first message, showed it to the child whose parents were sitting with their backs to her and couldn’t see the question on the note: “Is everything okay?” The child then nodded. Yes.

“That didn’t convince me,” said Flaviane. Her instinct told her something was wrong. “I wrote a new message, asked him if he needed help. The answer was a nod. Carvalho immediately went to the back of the restaurant and called the emergency number from there. “I’m very worried and don’t know what I’m doing can you give me any advice?” Carvalho asked the dispatcher, according to the TV channel “WFLA”. “The boy has bruises and he is not eating.” A few minutes later the police arrived and took care of the situation .

Stepfather hanged 11-year-old upside down from door

Flaviane’s gut feeling didn’t deceive her, in fact she most likely prevented worse from happening with her quick-witted commitment. Because at home the little one had to go through terrible things, as was later shown at the trial against his stepfather. The investigators found out that the child had been cruelly tortured and abused by his stepfather Timothy W. – among other things he hung the boy upside down on a door on Christmas Day and handcuffed him to a car.

A grand jury found Wilson guilty on a number of counts, including two counts of detention of a child under the age of 13, three counts of aggravated child molestation with a gun, four counts of aggravated child molestation and child neglect. A verdict is expected in August. The defendant has been in the Orange County Jail since 2/17/21. Just like the child’s mother. Kristin Swann admitted in court that she knew about the abuse and did nothing. According to WESH, she was charged with child neglect.

Brother and little sister in care: “happy and healthy”

Flaviana herself also commented on the verdict on a donation page that her boss had set up for her benefit. “Justice would be served!” He has been charged with ten felonies and will now spend the rest of his life in prison as he faces two life sentences,” she commented. “Thank God the boy is doing very well and he grows up with a lot of love. He’s happy and healthy.”

Officials praised Carvalho’s heroism and said she may have saved the boy’s life. And his then four-year-old sister. She was not abused and is now in the care of the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) with her brother. (cwa)
