Thousands of Austrians received emails on Wednesday morning that were allegedly sent by the tax office. It is a fake!
Fraudsters are behind “finance” email
Mag. Johannes Pasquali, spokesman for the Federal Ministry of Finance, clarifies: “These are so-called phishing mails. The wave started in the morning and we strongly warn against reacting to these mails.”
The financial administration never reports to the citizens via email. The only secure communication channels are either by post or in the “FinanzOnline” system.
The hyperlink contained in the email leads to a fake website on the Internet that prompts you to enter credit card details. The form in the attachment fakes a fake website in the style of FinanzOnline, which prompts for credit card details. In a broadcast on Wednesday, the BMF emphasized that this was an attempt to defraud the Internet and that the information it contained was incorrect.
