The Department of Social Services resumes the specialized care service to people affected by fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue and women with breast cancer or mastectomized in the municipality. The Granadilla de Abona City Council is the only local Canarian administration that offers this free benefit to the population.
The number of users in the last two years has increased to 172 people, with an average of 100 beneficiaries attending physiotherapy and psychology sessions. The economic amount allocated by the City Council for this service is 216,076 euros. In addition, with the arrival of summer, one of the initiatives consists of physiotherapeutic rehabilitation on the beach of El Médano. The main objective is to offer a specialized therapeutic service, with a comprehensive intervention methodology in physical, psychological and social aspects of the beneficiaries and to promote healthy lifestyle habits through personalized and group care. In addition, the service is characterized by developing activities to promote group practice and physical exercise workshops, therapeutic maintenance gymnastics or adapted gymnastics.
There are also self-dressing and home ergonomics workshops, which allow users to acquire knowledge of techniques and exercises that they can then apply independently. Regarding the area of psychology, workshops are given on time management, improvement of habits such as sleep and eating, strategies for emotional control or management of family conflicts or stress.
