Attack on García Harfuch. Aggressors hid in three city halls

The 28 hit men who attacked the Secretary of Citizen Security of Mexico City, Omar García Harfuch, they hid in city hall hotels Cuauhtémoc, in two houses of the Gustavo A. Madero and another in the mayor’s office Tláhuac; Furthermore, the arsenal of weapons they employed included not only five Barrett rifles, but one grenade launcher. In total, 414 hammer caps were lifted.

Sources consulted by EL UNIVERSAL reported that the cells of the assassins remained hidden during the three weeks prior to the attack in these places without being informed of the type of work they would carry out. One of the addresses used, and where the mastermind is believed to have planned the attack, is located at 23 Jade Street, Estrella neighborhood, in the Gustavo A. Madero mayor’s office.

In this place, agents of the Investigative Police (PDI) and elements of the Secretary of the Navy carried out a search yesterday morning, where they found passports, circulation cards of the 13 vehicles that were used on Friday morning and that are insured, as well as photographs of El Vaca, alleged leader of hitmen of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) in Tonalá, Jalisco.

The second building where Gustavo A. Madero hid in the mayor’s office is located in the Santa Isabel Tola neighborhood, where they also found important indications for the development of the investigations.

On Saturday afternoon, elements of the capital’s police and the Investigative Police, coordinated with the Secretary of the Navy, carried out another operation in a nearby residence, where they found more vehicles involved.

José Armando Briseño, El Vaca, the alleged mastermind of the attack, knew the building of the Santa Catarina neighborhood, in Tláhuac, where he was arrested on Friday by SSC police intelligence agents, since he coordinated the plan for the execution of two Israeli citizens in Plaza Artz in July 2019, in addition to other criminal operations.

Advances in the investigations of the local Prosecutor for Strategic Investigation of Special Affairs of the local Attorney General’s Office (FGJ) showed that the assassins had an arsenal in their possession, which was used and from which 414 cartridges were collected.

The agency’s spokesman, Ulises Lara, said that the weapons under guard are a grenade launcher, 34 long weapons, eight short weapons, seven fragmentation grenades, five Barrett rifles, 39 vests, 51 Molotov bombs, 96 chargers and 2,000 805 cartridges.

Ulises Lara said that the investigation folder for the attack is “robust” and that the investigations are well advanced.

He confirmed the arrest of 19 people on Friday, which occurred hours after the attack against the Secretary of Citizen Security, Omar García Harfuch.

The detainees are waiting for the legal time to define their legal situation to be fulfilled.

They expand inquiries. Sources consulted by this publishing house reported that the inquiries follow the alleged leak of information on the routes, schedules and movements used by the head of the Ministry of Citizen Security, for which reason they are already investigating the interior of the agency.

They detailed that although it is a hypothesis, it is not yet established as a line of investigation.

Among the points identified, they specified, are that the two subjects who allegedly monitored the chief of the capital’s police could not go unnoticed and that it is unlikely that they were doing surveillance outside the home of the SSC holder.

Therefore, some areas of the agency began to be investigated, including that of the SSC’s police intelligence, due to the type of information it handles.
