Attack in the Corona crisis: United returns to New York JFK

United Airlines has not been flying from New York Airport JFK for five years. That should change. The head of the airline is planning “aggressive” competition.

Few travelers love New York JFK. Nevertheless, it is still the most important airport in the east coast metropolis. For a long time, one of the three major airlines in the USA could not be found on him. United Airlines has been concentrating on Newark in the state of New Jersey for around five years in the New York area and also operates a few domestic flights from La Guardia.

The airline had withdrawn from New York JFK because the business there was no longer profitable enough. There was too much competition. Right in the middle of the Corona crisis, United is now daring to restart in JFK. “We worked hard to use the pandemic as a way to get back to JFK,” said boss Scott Kirby last week at the presentation of the quarterly results. “I am pretty confident that we will be successful in this.”

United want from New York to the west coast

In New York JFK there has been more space due to various extensions and renovations, says Kirby. The pandemic also drove out some competitors. United therefore wants to take off again from New York Airport in the coming year. By withdrawing five years ago, the airline lost some major customers to American and Delta, who are investing heavily in JFK and expanding their terminals.

Kirby is currently talking about transcontinental routes, for example flights from New York to Los Angeles or San Francisco. He is looking forward to “coming back and aggressively participating in the competition,” said the United boss.
