The weeks of August 24 and 31 were scheduled for two challengers to Orlando. But due to the sanitary conditions, theMASTER preferred to cancel the events, recognizing that it was difficult to guarantee everyone’s safety without creating a space totally dedicated to players and staff. This being difficult to set up on smaller events, unlike the tournaments of Cincinnati and theUS Open, according to a press release from American Federation, posted on its website. While this decision may raise doubts as to whether the Grand Slam New Yorker, the USTA takes care to differentiate the events in its communication in order to reassure the fans. In addition, these tournaments were going to be played in Florida, a state currently very affected by Covid-19.

Mouratoglou does not think that the US Open can take place!

Although detailed health and safety protocols have been planned, without the creation of a controlled environment including a comprehensive and contained program of accommodation, transportation, food and drink and medical testing, as will be the case for the Western & Southern Open and the US Open, appropriate risk mitigation would not be possible, and in the case of these events, this type of environment would be difficult to create from a logistical and financial point of view. With the health and safety of everyone involved being the USTA’s greatest concern, these factors, along with current rates of COVID-19 in Florida, have played a key role in the decision-making process.
