Atmospheric CO2 reaches record level as emissions drop

Clearly, pollution is falling. According to NASA, levels of nitrogen dioxide between New York and Washington, DC dropped by about 30% in March, compared to the average for the past five years. Earlier this year, figures released by CarbonBrief showed that the shutdowns associated with COVID-19 in China have resulted in a 25% reduction in carbon emissions. Photos of cities like Los Angeles, Moscow and New Delhi show a smog-free sky on the streets emptied by local decrees on the spot. But in order to make a significant change to the CO2 concentration, these emissions should drop by 20-30% over the course of a year, according to the Scripps team.
