THERlando Ortega and Ana Peleteiro have been chosen the best athletes of 2019 by the Spanish Athletics Federation (RFEA), in a gala held for the first time in history virtually.
Ortega, bronze at the Doha World Cup and 2019 Diamond League winner, the pitcher Javier Cienfuegos and the obstacle Fernando Carro prevailed in the vote. “I am happy and proud of this award and thank everyone who made it possible for me to achieve this award,” said Ortega, who wins this award for the first time in his sports career.
In the women’s category, the victory went to Ana Peleteiro, European champion ‘indoor’ with record from Spain, won the athletes Mara Prez and Esther Guerrero. Peleteiro assured that “I will always remember 2019. This award makes me want to do very well next year. This year I have decided not to compete, so we will see each other in 2021 on the tracks.”
In the rest of the categories, the choice of Mara Vicente as the best under-20 athlete, in the female category, and Yasiel Brayan Sotero, in the male category. In section sub-23, the awards went to Celia Antn and Adrin Ben.
In addition, in the ‘Generation athletics’ award, Salma Paralluelo and Ignacio Sez were awarded as great talents for the future.
