Athletics, Karsten Warholm | Filip and Henrik Ingebrigtsen react after Warholm’s statement

This year’s King’s Cups in the NM in athletics went to Jakob Ingebrigtsen and Amalie Iuel. In retrospect, both Karsten Warholm himself and Iuel have stated that they believe that the former should have received the King’s Cup after the Norwegian Championship.

In an interview with Aftenposten after the decision, Warholm reacted to the jury’s choice.

– Yes, I question the jury’s choice, says Karsten Warholm to the newspaper.

Warholm was looking for its sixth straight royal trophy. But the jury thought that Ingebrigtsen’s 3.33.94 in the 1500 meters was a better performance than Warholm’s 48.23 in the 400 m hurdles.

– For me, it’s really about the King’s Cup

Iuel came to TV 2 with her opinion that she thought Warholm was worthy of the King’s Cup.

– I mean it. Karsten delivered a very strong race today. His time today is a huge achievement here. It is a pity that he is punished for running so fast earlier in the season. It seems less powerful than it really is. In that sense, I disagree a little, but by all means. Jakob ran a great race yesterday too, Iuel says TV 2.

Warholm elaborated on his thoughts to Aftenposten.

– An NM gold hangs high, that’s why I pose, but for me it’s really about the King’s Cup. It obviously did not work today, but I tried at least, says the hurdles runner.

Warholm also believed that he should be given a reason for the decision.

– Do you think you should have won the King’s Cup?

– I do not know completely, but I would like to hear the reasons behind. When Jakob and I work on knives as we do now and have done in recent years, it is obvious that the jury has a tough job.

Ketil Tømmernes is president of the Norwegian Athletics Association. He will not give Warholm any justification, he says to Aftenposten.

– The decision has been made in accordance with the regulations. It states that the performance is assessed, and that the decision is made on the basis of the assessment of performance, and on the basis of judgment.

Henrik Ingebrigtsen: – Humble statement

On Sunday evening, elder brother Henrik Ingebrigtsen took to Instagram to respond to Warholm’s statements.

Ingebrigtsen posted a post that must be interpreted as a stab in the direction of Warholm.

“Humble statement”, Henrik Ingebrigtsen writes over a screenshot of the aforementioned Aftenposten case in which Warholm comments on the jury’s choice.

The competition was between Warholm and Ingebrigtsen. The cup winner himself was surprised that it was him.

– It’s great, it’s not anyone you compare yourself with. It’s cool to be honored in that way. As a distance runner, it is not something you think about that much, unfortunately.

– It is not the case that we set our achievements against each other, we work for the same goal, and are so lucky to work together without competing with each other. It’s cool to have more athletes who assert themselves so strongly. It is extremely motivating, says Ingebrigtsen to NTB.

Later on Sunday, middle brother Filip Ingebrigtsen also posted a message. He attaches the text justification and the time Jakob ran in during his 1500 meters on Saturday.

Henrik Ingebrigtsen’s manager Daniel Wessfeldt tells Nettavisen that he does not want to say too much about his client’s statements on Sunday.

– I have not spoken to Henrik today. It’s not something I want to get involved in and comment on. I’m doing the management part for Henrik. I do not care who will get the King’s Cup or not. I do not care if they have different opinions, he says to Nettavisen

Jakob Ingebrigtsen also took the NM gold in the 800 meters.

Henrik Ingebrigtsen has not yet responded to Nettavisen’s inquiries.
