Athletics. Elite French Championships in Caen: money and disappointment for Tom Reux

Elite French Championships in Caen

The weekends follow each other and are not alike for Tom Reux. Less than a week ago, everything was successful for Dinard from AC Bretillien. Last Saturday, he threw 60.35 m at the Brittany championships in Lamballe, before breaking the Brittany record (60.86 m), the next day in Salon-de-Provence.

After such a sequence, the discus thrower arrived at the French championships in Caen with the desire to break the house and, why not, beat Lolassonn Djouhan, the best performer of the year (65.86 m).

“58m is not the standard I should be aiming for now”

Friday, the day of the Breton was a nightmare. After a first start-up disc at 57.28m, Tom Reux chained four unmeasured throws before releasing, on his 6th and last attempt, a “correct” throw at 58.71m, synonymous with the silver medal. behind a not imperial Lolassonn Djouhan (60.04 m).

“I’m a little disappointed because I didn’t do the competition I wanted. I would have liked to do at least 60 m. The last jet is catching up a bit with the competition, but 58 m is not the standard I should be aiming for now. I am all the more disappointed that Lolassonn was reachable today. »

“We are a little frustrated”

The reasons for this poor performance are to be found in the fatigue caused by the two competitions last weekend, according to Régis Quérard, the coach of Tom Reux, who tried to remobilize his athlete, slightly injured in the right pectoral. .

“Tom just hasn’t recovered physically. On Wednesday, we did a training session and he hurt his pecs a bit. Suddenly, instead of letting the disc move away, he shortened his movement. We are a little frustrated, even if the last throw is better and saves the championship a little. »

One competition chasing the other, Tom Reux will have to bounce back quickly because, from next week, he will be in Oran (Algeria) for the Mediterranean Games, where the objective will be to cross 60 m again.
