Atari is working on new Missile Command game for Android and iOS – Gaming – News

Atari announces Missile Command: Recharged. A new version of the classic from 1980. The game is released in the spring for Android and iOS. The game is free and contains advertisements and there is an option to turn it off for a fee.

Atari releases the new game in honor of the 40th anniversary of the original, the company writes. Missile Command: Recharged is made by Nickervision Studios, a developer who also has other retro-style games to his name.

The new Missile Command game comes out for iOS and Android and is playable on tablets and smartphones. Atari has released some screenshots and gifs showing the new version. The concept is the same as for the forty-year-old game: players must defuse incoming missiles and use a counter attack with their own projectiles.

According to Atari, the new version of the game is designed to be suitable for picking up and playing. The makers promise ‘short intense game play sessions’. The game will contain power-ups with which players can upgrade all kinds of aspects. Missile Command: Recharged will be released in the spring and can then be downloaded for free. There is an option in the game to turn off advertisements against payment. What that will cost has not been announced yet.

Missile Command was originally an arcade game, first released in 1980. A year later the game also became available for the Atari 2600. The game also appeared in 1995 for the Nintendo Game Boy.
