Bayern is already certain of place in the eighth finals

Bayern is already certain of group A win. The defending champion took the lead shortly before half-time via Robert Lewandowski, who tapped in from close range after Salzburg keeper Cican Stankovic parried a shot from Thomas Müller.

It was Lewandowski’s 71st goal in the Champions League, which means the Pole now shares third place on the all-time top scorers list with Raul. Only Cristiano Ronaldo (131) and Lionel Messi (118) scored more often than those two.

Early in the second half Bayern came in at 2-0. Ex-Ajax player Maximilian Wöber changed direction of a Kingsley Coman shot and scored his own goal. Shortly afterwards, the Germans had to continue with ten men, because midfielder Marc Roca, who made his debut in the Champions League, received his second yellow card.

With a man less, the defending champion quickly came to 3-0, Leroy Sané headed from close range. With a ticker Mergim Berisha did something back for the Austrians: 3-1.

Bayern thus won the Champions League for the sixteenth time in a row, equaling the record of Atlético Madrid. Next week, the team of coach Hansi Flick can only get the record if it wins away from Atlético. The Spaniards did not get further than 0-0 at home against Lokomotiv Moscow on Wednesday and still have to work hard in the last two group matches.
