Atalanta may switch tactics after slapping against Liverpool | NOW

Tuesday’s hopeless 0-5 defeat against Liverpool in the Champions League may have drastic consequences for Atalanta. Trainer Gian Piero Gasperini is considering adjusting the tactics of the Italian team.

Atalanta has been playing in a 3-4-3 system in recent years and was very successful with it, but in recent weeks it has been more difficult. The Hans Hateboer, Marten de Roon and Sam Lammers team had no chance against Liverpool.

“We fell short on all fronts, Liverpool was much stronger. We will have to analyze that gap carefully. In any case, it was no fear, because we had already had two good results in the Champions League,” said Gasperini.

“We thought we could compete with Liverpool, but we made the same mistakes we did last year in the league. We need to start thinking about our tactics. We are conceding too many goals, scoring less and covering fewer kilometers.”

Against Liverpool it was already 0-2 halfway and the score rose to 0-5 within ten minutes in the second half. The heavy defeat means that Atalanta lost the second place in group D to Ajax.

“In recent years we have made more tactical changes that have benefited us,” said Gasperini. “It is true that we have a busy and tough schedule, but we have to make sure that we keep a certain level.”
