Carter uncovered Tutankhamun’s tomb in 1922 and has since been suspected by the Egyptians of thieving components of the pharaoh’s treasure ahead of the tomb was formally opened. Having said that, proof for these allegations was not available.

‘Difficult position’

Gardiner then despatched a letter to Carter in which he wrote Engelbach’s verdict and claimed that the amulet was without doubt stolen from Tutankhamun’s tomb. “I am deeply sorry to have been place in these kinds of a tough posture.”
