Those who have already ordered tickets for a trip to one of the mentioned countries, returning to Latvia, will have to observe self-isolation. This requirement also applies to transit travelers, ie if the traveler will pass through these countries or have stayed at their airports for transfer purposes.
Self-isolation is not required for people from countries where the 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 population does not exceed 15. When calculating the number of cases per 100,000 population, it is possible to make objective comparisons between countries, despite differences in total population.
Latvia currently has the second lowest incidence of Covid-19 among the EU and EEA countries, namely 0.9 cases per 100,000 population in the last two weeks. Such cases have also been reported in Hungary, but so far only Liechtenstein has had zero cases.
The rest of the Baltic States have also seen a decline in morbidity over the past two weeks. In Estonia, the figure dropped to 1.4 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, while in Lithuania to 2 cases. On June 19, it was reported that the incidence in Lithuania had reached 3.6 cases, while in Estonia – 6.6.
Sweden is the fastest growing country, with 154.5 cases per 100,000 population, well above the rest of the EEA and EU.
The second highest incidence is in Portugal, with 44.2 cases per 100,000 population.
Taking into account the above considerations, both SPKC and the Ministry of Health still do not recommend traveling outside Latvia.
