at least six cases of Covid-19 among players, game against Brighton on hold

At least six Tottenham players have tested positive for Covid-19 this week, which could call into question the holding of their next Premier League matches, but not yet the one against Rennes in the European Cup, this Thursday (9 p.m. ).

Shaken by a wave of positive cases within the club, Tottenham is looking for the parade to counter the pandemic which could jeopardize the match against Brighton next Sunday, in the Premier League. In the meantime, the Covid-19 is partially undermining the plans of technician Antonio Conte for the Ligue Conference match against Rennes (9 p.m. on RMC Sport 1). At least half a dozen positive cases have been identified among the players, the staff being also concerned, it is the entire locker room that is affected.

In this context, the club would have started discussions with the League on the viability of the match against Brighton, the meeting against Rennes not being called into question for the moment. UEFA have said the game against Rennes should go ahead as planned. The rules state that a meeting can take place as long as thirteen players from Team A are available, including at least one goalkeeper.

A major impact to come on the calendar?

Currently second in Group G of the Conference League behind Rennes, already qualified and guaranteed to finish first, Tottenham is neck and neck with the Dutch at Vitesse Arnhem who receive the Slovenes from Mura, last and eliminated. These Covid cases could also have repercussions on the upcoming league matches against Leicester on Thursday, December 16, and Liverpool, the following Sunday, as Spurs have just returned to the C1 race with three wins in a row in Premier League.

Last season, Manchester City reported four positive tests among players and staff on December 25 and three more on December 29, forcing their game against Everton at Goodison Park to be postponed. Fulham said six positive cases of Covid-19 when the game against Spurs was called off last season.
