At least 9% of all Covid-19 cases in Latvia are employees of medical institutions – in Latvia – News

The report also states that the number of people treated with Covid-19 has increased in recent weeks. Cases of illness have been registered among the employees of the Emergency Medical Service (NMPD), outpatient health care, as well as at Daugavpils Regional Hospital and North Kurzeme Regional Hospital.

So far, most cases of infection have been registered in Vidzeme Hospital. There are 64 cases of Covid-19 registered in this facility, including 17 hospital staff, 20 patients, four of whom have died, and 27 family members of sick patients or staff.

Four separate outbreaks have been reported to the NMPD. The highest number of cases was registered at the NMPD Operational Management Center with 38 cases of Covid-19, including secondary cases in families.

At the same time, outbreaks have been registered in social care institutions. For example, 52 laboratory-confirmed cases of Covid-19 were previously registered at the social care center “Mārsnēni”. Among the clients of the shelter, the infection was confirmed in 39 cases, moreover, in five cases the patients died. Covid-19 was also confirmed in eight workers, while secondary infections occurred in five more cases.

One of the biggest outbreaks so far has been at the Blue Cross in the Riga shelter, where 63 laboratory-confirmed cases of Covid-19 have been registered, including one death. According to the ministry, most patients had an asymptomatic course of the infection.

The largest outbreak in the company so far was registered in a forest and wood processing company, where 27 cases of the disease were registered. This week, an outbreak was also discovered in a food company in Riga, where at least 19 employees have been infected.

Data on Covid-19 patients were obtained from the Center for Disease Prevention and Control on 6 September.
