At least 100 people injured in post-election protests in Kyrgyzstan – Abroad – News

Opposition leader Janar Akayev is also among those injured, his party Ata-Meken said.

The Ministry of Health reported that the condition of the four injured was serious.

At least 40 of the victims are known to be security staff.

According to official results, political parties close to President Sooronbay Zhenbekbek have won the parliamentary elections in Kyrgyzstan on Sunday, but several opposition parties are disputing the results.

International observers have stated that allegations of vote-buying and intimidation are credible and a matter of serious concern.

Protests against official election results have erupted in Bishkek and elsewhere in the country.

Police in the capital have used tear gas and water throwers to disperse protesters.

According to official results, only four of the 16 parties have entered parliament, and three of them are expected to be loyal to President Zhenbekbek.

Opposition parties have called on the Central Election Commission to annul the election results.

One of the candidates, Rjskeldi Mombekov, addressing about 5,000 protesters, said the president had promised fair elections and had not kept his promise.

Protests have called for Zeenbekov to resign.
