At least 100 deprived of liberty who were being held in the pavilions of the General Command of the Yaracuy State Police escaped in the early hours of this August 1, 2020, report the ONV Ventana a Libertad and the Venezuelan Observatory of Prisons .

The evasion was recorded between 1:00 and 2:00 in the morning and until noon this Saturday, officials were in the work of counting inmates and recapturing those who escaped.

According to data from the Venezuelan Prisons Observatory (OVP), it would be the largest leak so far in 2020 in Venezuela, even compared to 2018 and 2019 figures.

Unofficially, it was known that the fugitives made a hole that connected them to the San Felipe sewer and sewer network. The inmates apparently emerged in the dark in various areas of the city, some two blocks from the headquarters and others in a park located ten blocks from the scene, as reported in police minutes.

A Window to Freedom (UVL) also reports that the inmates managed to go out into the street after digging a hole in the floor of one of the pavilions that connects to a water network that faces the north street of the command.

The General Command is located on Caracas Street between Avenues 10 and 11, in the heart of the city of San Felipe.

Due to this situation, UVL points out, pedestrian and road access was restricted throughout the sector where Poliyaracuy is located.

The respondents indicate that until 11:00 in the morning, at least 30 recaptures of escapees had been made that were found in some homes in San Felipe.

It was revealed that an approximate of 530 deprived of liberty were being held in three headquarters pavilions before the escape was registered.

The last time there was an evasion there was on June 23 when 12 prisoners released a hole in the walls and ran out of the place. At the time of their recapture, one of them died in an alleged gunfight against the police, another was wounded, and 7 of them were re-admitted to command.

If the total number of escaped prisoners is confirmed, it would be registering the largest number of escapees so far in 2020, exceeding the figure that there was in March at the San Carlos roadblock in Zulia state when 71 men and 8 women escaped.
