The legendary Subaru WRX has had its revolutionary continuation. The sedan steeped in rally pedigree has switched to the new Subaru Global Platform, and after more than 20 years, the engine has been completely overhauled. The votes are divided and so far one can only regret that there are no plans to sell this model in Poland.
How much are these 3 KM worth?
After breaking with the iconic EJ20 power unit, the sports Subaru got a new boxer with a capacity of 2.4 liters. It was expected that the car will have at least 300 hp, and at best 400 hp. In the end, the engine was tuned to 271hp in the factory specification, which is just 3hp more than the last WRX. The maximum torque is 350 Nm and is available between 2000-5200 rpm.
How does this translate into a 0-100 km / h sprint? For now, it is not known, but the increased capacity together with the new turbocharger are supposed to improve the reactivity and acceleration. Better performance of the sedan with symmetrical 4-wheel drive will be provided, among others, by active torque vectoring. Traditionalists will settle for a manual gearbox, although the CVT is very interesting.
In sport mode, you can then manually shift up to 8 gears. Driving up a gear is 30 percent. faster, while reduction by as much as half as fast. It is worth adding that this is standard on the exclusive WRX GT version. However, in the case of an automatic machine, the driver has a traditional handbrake lever. For the first time in the history of this model, the most thoroughbred version includes electronically controlled adaptive shock absorbers. This makes it possible to dynamically change the settings.
Where’s the spoiler?
Fans of the large Subaru spoiler lip on the tailgate will be a bit disappointed. The new WRX has a more subtle aileron integrated into the body line, though it’s not an STI version yet. Body elements are designed to slightly reduce air resistance. Narrow claw-shaped LED headlights appeared at the front. Aluminum front fenders saved 2.3 kg. There is no shortage of air ducts, which in addition to brake ventilation, aerodynamically improve driving stability. Importantly, the center of gravity is lower, and the excellent handling is enhanced by the electric power assist steering with double gears.
When you look inside, the most noticeable thing is the large display with a diagonal of 11.6 inches. Starlink touchscreen in portrait orientation is the command and entertainment center with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Subaru WRX GT version offers eight-way adjustable Recaro bucket seats with red stitching. In addition, the Subaru EyeSight, a package of driver assistance systems, is also available. An even better outward look is provided by 18-inch alloy wheels instead of the standard 17s. Currently, the new Subaru WRX for 2022 has only been announced in the US and Canada.
