At a glance: What new measures and bans will come into force on Wednesday

From Wednesday, October 14, other, stricter measures will come into force in the Czech Republic. The government discussed their introduction all Monday, with the state officials agreeing on the final wording before ten o’clock in the evening. The situation was in many ways reminiscent of political events during the first wave of coronavirus.

“We have only one attempt, which must be successful, in order to manage the epidemic as a nation again,” said Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (YES).

“The decision was difficult and crucial. We dedicated the whole day to it today and we were looking for the best solution for the Czech Republic, which will take us back to the dormitories that will lead to rescue, “added Jan Hamáček, chairman of the other government party of the CSSD and head of the Central Crisis Staff.

So what changes from midnight to Tuesday to Wednesday?

Restaurants, bars, pubs, clubs

They close until the end of the emergency. Only the dispensing window with operation up to 20 hours is allowed.

Two others go hand in hand with this measure: a ban on associating more than six people and a ban on drinking alcohol in public places.

According to the Minister of Health Roman Prymula, this package of regulations should lead to people not associating in large numbers in front of restaurants or dispensing windows and not drinking after the closing time, as has been seen in many places in the Czech Republic in recent days.

Exceptions are hotel restaurants, which, however, must be open only to their guests and only until 8 pm, as well as wedding and funeral receptions, subject to hygienic measures.

You can find the news in the online report:

Association of persons

A maximum of six people can gather inside and outside at one time. Exceptions are families or various meetings, such as political parties, councils and the like. Athletes, on the other hand, have no exception.

Veils

Newly, from Tuesday, October 13, the veils will be worn not only indoors and in public transport, but also at outdoor stops and public transport platforms. “Sometimes a hundred people are waiting on the platform, it is advisable to protect yourself,” explained Minister Prymula.

Schools

From Wednesday, all pupils and students will learn at a distance, ie at both primary and secondary, higher vocational and university schools. Only kindergartens will remain in normal operation.

The state will provide care for the children of employees of the integrated rescue system and nurses, doctors and social workers.

Pupils – at least those in the first grade – will return to the benches on Monday, November 2, after the autumn holidays, which have been extended for a whole week from 26 to 30 October this year.

Nursing allowances can be received by parents of children up to and including 10 years of age, in the amount of 60 percent of the daily assessment basis, with a minimum of 400 crowns.

“I would not expect that, as the Minister of Education, who has been promoting full-time measures for a long time, I will stand in front of you and present the closure of primary schools. And I wouldn’t expect to defend it, but I will. I saw the predictions of growth in the Czech Republic, I got acquainted with the models and variants of how to intervene to avoid a situation that would result in a catastrophe, “Minister Robert Plaga (for YES) defended the changes in education.

School groups will also be closed, outdoor schools are prohibited and one-on-one teaching at basic art schools is also prohibited.

Practical teaching at secondary schools, which has had an exception so far, is prohibited.

The change also concerns the accommodation of pupils and students. It is forbidden for them to stay in boarding schools, in youth homes and for university students to stay in dormitories if they have another residence in the Czech Republic. Exceptions are, for example, students with ordered work duties.

As far as universities are concerned, the personal presence of students is prohibited, with the exception of examinations for up to 10 people. However, the ban does not apply to students of general medicine, dentistry and pharmacy.

We need a maximum R of 0.8

If the average reproductive number of the covid-19 infection per week drops to 0.8, these newly adopted measures will be alleviated, according to Prime Minister Andrej Babiš. The reproduction number indicates the average number of others infected from one positive test. If it is less than one, the epidemic gradually weakens. On Friday, the Minister of Health Roman Prymula stated that the reproduction number is 1.5.
