HOUSTON – The Houston⁢ Astros are set to activate right-handed ‍pitcher Luis garcia from the 60-day injured list‍ on Monday, adding a ‌key arm to their playoff push. Garcia has been sidelined since spring training due to a ⁤right elbow strain that required Tommy John ⁣surgery.

Garcia,a key contributor‌ to Houston’s ⁢recent success, emerged as a regular rotation member in 2021,finishing second in american League Rookie of the Year‌ voting ‌with a 3.48 ERA over 155 1/3 innings. He followed that up with a ⁣strong 2022 campaign, posting a 3.72 ERA across 157 1/3 innings as the Astros won the World Series. ⁣While ⁢his postseason ERA stands‌ at 5.79 over 23 1/3 innings, he has delivered crucial performances, ⁤including 5 2/3 scoreless innings in Houston’s 2021⁤ ALCS clincher against the Boston ‌Red Sox.

The‍ Astros currently⁣ have a rotation anchored by Hunter Brown and Framber valdez.⁤ Cristian Javier has⁤ made four‌ starts⁢ following his own Tommy John rehab, and Spencer Arrighetti ‌has pitched ‍well in his recent⁣ outings after recovering from a broken‌ thumb. ⁣Jason Alexander has also been effective, though the team views him as a potential swingman‍ in the playoffs. Rookie Brandon Walter,⁣ who was excellent in‌ nine starts before being sidelined by elbow inflammation, is not eligible to return until late September. The ‌addition‌ of ‍Garcia comes ‍after Lance McCullers Jr. was recently moved to the bullpen.
