KONTAN.CO.ID – Astronauts have managed to photograph a rare flash event on Earth from space. The flashes look stunning and different from the lights on at night.

Earth looks like it will look interesting when viewed from space. Sure enough, an astronaut managed to photograph Earth from space coupled with a rare flash that is rarely seen.

Thomas Pesquet, an astronaut on a mission on the Space Station or International Space Station (ISS) recently (8/10/2021) managed to capture this rare moment. Astronauts from the European Space Agency or Europe Space Agency (ESA), describes the moment as a transient luminous event or “transient luminous event“.

Because of its strategic location, astronauts on the ISS have witnessed amazing phenomena in space. Not only that, they also witnessed something simple and ordinary, like an airplane flying over an island.

In fact, not a few astronauts for years have captured similar events in a photo.

Like this photo shared by Thomas Pesquet, he shared the rare flash via his official Twitter account. Amazing, right?

The photo was also taken by another ESA astronaut, namely Andreas Morgensen who took their first image from space.

Despite all that, what exactly is the lightning that appears?

Quote from Techtimes, CNET reported that the transient luminous event captured in the photo was caused by lightning in the upper atmosphere.

From a different angle, lightning looks like a rare flash seen from space.

Pesquet himself said that the incident was very rare, as shared via his official Twitter account.

“What’s interesting about these lightning bolts is that only a few decades ago they had been observed anecdotally by pilots and scientists weren’t sure they actually existed,” Pesquet said in a statement. Flickr quoted from CNET.

What do you think? Is this rare portrait amazing?

It turns out that an event that is actually common on Earth, when viewed from space looks amazing.
