It has been more than a year since immunization against Covid-19 began Worldwide. Different vaccines have been added to the arsenal of countries to fight the coronavirus. But there is one that is being used the most: the one developed by AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford.
Specifically, this antigen is being administered in 182 countries of the world, according to data from Our World in Data. Although, among them, is not Spain. Our country has long since stopped using this vaccine.
It was in July of last year when the Ministry of Health stopped distributing antigen by AstraZeneca to the autonomous communities. These already had sufficient doses to complete the vaccination of the group to which their use had been limited: from 60 to 69 years.
It should be remembered that the health authorities decided to limit the administration of the AstraZeneca vaccine to the aforementioned range due to the cases of thrombosis that had been reported in the younger population.
Due to the limitation of its use, Spain has donated part of the doses it had acquired. In fact, 97% of the Covid vaccines donated by the European Union are from AstraZeneca.

Behind the vaccine developed by the Anglo-Swedish company and the University of Oxford, the second most used is that of Pfizer and BioNTech. In total, there are 151 countries that are administering their doses.
The top 3 is completed by the Chinese Sinopharm. Specifically – always according to data from Our World in Data, which also collects extra– 86 countries are currently inoculating it. The American vaccine follows closely Modern, which is administered in 85 countries.
The single-dose antigen Janssen It is used in 80 countries. In the case of Spain, people who received this vaccine they are already being given a booster (Pfizer or Moderna). In total, more than 1.5 million Spaniards immunized with Janssen already have a second dose.
Far below the vaccines mentioned so far is the Russian Sputnik V. There are 48 countries that are using this antigen. the of Sinovac, meanwhile, is administered in 46 countries. Others such as Cansino, Bharat Biotech or Sputnik Light (single dose) have a very residual use in the world (between nine and one countries).
Vaccination in the world
Currently, 60.2% of the world population has received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. An amount that goes down to 51.6% in the case of the complete guideline.
In total, they have been administered 9.79 billion doses worldwide. However, only 9.4% of people in low income countries have received at least one dose, according to data from Our World in Data.
In Spain, 90.6% of the population over 12 years of age already has the complete vaccination schedule against Covid-19. Regarding children between 5 and 11 years old, almost 50.3% have already received the first dose.
In addition, the administration of the booster vaccine is also picking up pace. Until now, this third dose was being injected to those over 40 years of age, but the Public Health Commission agreed a few days ago to also extend it to the group between 18 and 39 years old.
