New Asterix Album Cover Revealed: Asterix in Lusitania Set to Launch in October
Paris, France – The cover art for the highly anticipated next installment in the Asterix series, Asterix in Lusitania, has been unveiled by Albert René editions. Penned by Fabcaro and illustrated by Didier Conrad, the album-a project decades in the making-is slated for release in October 2025 and will initially be printed in a staggering 5 million copies across 19 languages for distribution in 25 countries. 2 million copies are earmarked for the French market alone.
The cover depicts Asterix, Obelix, and Idefix ascending a steep, paved street in Lisbon, Portugal. Four Portuguese figures are visible in the background, one appearing wary of the Gauls’ arrival. A Roman galley in the distance alludes to Lisbon’s historical significance as a Roman port city.
The creative team has drawn inspiration from the 1973 album Asterix in Corsica, mirroring its visual approach of the duo moving directly towards the reader within a recognizable setting. According to Céleste Surugue, General Director of albert René editions, “It’s been several decades that an album in Portugal” has been requested by fans.
Launched in 1959 by René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo, the Asterix comic series has become a global phenomenon, selling over 390 million albums worldwide and being translated into 110 languages. It remains the best-selling comic series in europe. A live-action film directed by Jonathan Cohen is also in development. Pre-orders are currently available online and through booksellers.
