Associations of the Community of Madrid demand post-COVID measures

This Monday about twenty Tourism and Hospitality Associations of the Madrid’s community met to define the statutes of creation of a Federation to represent them and they asked for a series of aid to reactivate the post-COVID-19 activity. From the creation of a Tourism Cluster to the reduction of VAT, the suspension of the payment of the IBI and free public transport to stimulate the reactivation of the establishments.

The associations agreed to start the creation of a Federation of Tourism and Hospitality Associations of the Community of Madrid, to serve as a permanent structure for coordination and dialogue.

The assembled associations are representative of subsectors such as travel agencies, rural development, accommodation, restaurants, professional tourism guides, camping sites, cooks and pastry chefs, active tourism and various areas of Tourism Professionals. They also represent companies from the city of Madrid, the Sierra de Guadarrama, the Sierra Norte, the Sierra Oeste, the Comarca de Las Vegas, the Corredor del Henares; and also destinations such as Aranjuez, San Lorenzo de El Escorial or Alcalá de Henares, among others.

The participating entrepreneurs raised the need that the protocols for the reduction of coronavirus contagion be “of general and obligatory compliance” and not voluntary, and that measures be implemented that positively impact the activity:

  • Creation of a tourism cluster in the Community of Madrid where they are represented all subsectors of the tourism value chain.
  • Opening hours of establishments so wish, while recovery lasts, to improve productivity.
  • Suspension of fees for the exploitation of public spaces to carry out activities
  • Reduction of VAT, applied to tourist activity, to 4%, on a temporary basis and until said activity recovers.
  • SIBI payment for companies affected by a significant reduction in activity as a result of COVID-19 in 2021.
  • Free public transport throughout the Community of Madrid, for four consecutive weekends, starting from the effective and real reopening of the establishments
