Assoc. Prof. Glomb explained with what symptoms the vaccinated drive Omicr …

In our country, due to the low number of immunizations and relatively few patients, Omicron will reach many people who will actually meet the coronavirus for the first time. There are cases in which they get sick with a booster dose, but let’s not forget that vaccinated people get sick slightly. This was stated on BNT by Assoc. Prof. Lubomira Glomb, Head of the Virology Department at the National Center for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases.

“A few days of malaise, fever, sneezing, coughing, but it’s not about shortness of breath, reduced saturation and oxygen content in the blood, and the need for hospital treatment. Vaccines have managed to reduce the risk of serious illness and death. If we see how it goes. Omicron in countries with high immunization coverage, it will be seen that the mortality curve is low. In our country, however, this will not be the case due to low immunization, “said Assoc. Prof. Glomb.

Regarding the symptoms of the different strains, she said it could not be judged whether you were with Omicron or Delta. Distinguishing becomes difficult.

At the end of January we will be at the peak of patients with the new strain of coronavirus Omicron, the expert predicts.

According to her, Omicron still does not dominate in our country. The delta is strong, but since there are quite high levels of infection for two days in a row, there are probably already high levels of Omicron.

According to Assoc. Prof. Glomb Omicron, it seems to be easier, but the data comes from countries that are different from us. Some data come from South Africa, which has an extremely younger population with an average age of 27. It was hit hard by their Beta version, their Delta wave was strong and according to research, 70-80% of the population has already encountered the virus. Adding 20% vaccinated means that a very large part of South Africa’s population is immune to the coronavirus. There are also many immunized people in Europe, which means that there is also underlying immunity that distorts the picture.

We know that Omicron is milder, but probably those who have it already have immunity, says Assoc. Prof. Glomb.

For the proposal to reduce quarantine, she relied on scientific data, which claims that a person is infected within 8 days of the first symptoms.

Regarding the increased morbidity in children, she said that the previous options spared the child population, while this is not the case with Delta and Omicron.
