Assisted people can now receive up to 1,200 euros in donations | Economy

The rules for people on welfare are relaxed. From now on they will be able to receive donations up to an amount of 1,200 euros per year, without their benefit being reduced.

The loosened rule is part of a package of measures with which the cabinet wants to remove the sharp edges of the so-called participation act.

For example, it will also become easier to get to work from social care and there will be more opportunities to provide informal care. The responsible minister Carola Schouten (Poverty Reduction) wants these adjustments to focus “not on the rules, but on the people”.

“It is important that everyone can participate,” says the minister. “Preferably through work. For those who are unable to do so, there must be a good safety net.”

Schouten has previously said that the Participation Act provides such a safety net, but that the strict rules don’t always work as intended in practice.
