Assessment welcomed by experts in Quebec

The most recent data on COVID-19 in Quebec makes experts smile who had not seen such a low balance sheet since March 21.

“This is very good news, and we will hope that it will continue to decline,” says Dre Caroline Quach-Thanh, pediatrician-microbiologist-infectiologist at Sainte-Justine Hospital.

As of June 7, 225 new cases of coronavirus have been added to the total assessment, a progression much lower than that of the last weeks.

According to the National Institute of Public Health of Quebec (INSPQ), the lowest toll dates back to March 21, where 38 new cases were listed.

Eight deaths

As for the new deaths, we listed 8 on Sunday. Still according to the INSPQ, this is the lowest count since April 1, the date on which three victims were counted.

The Dre Quach-Thanh, however, has some reservations. “I always look at deaths a few days later, because sometimes they are reported late,” she says.

Delayed effect

Numerous deconfinement measures entered into force on 1er June, notably the resumption of the activities of psychologists, dentists, campgrounds, as well as those of hairdressers outside the Metropolitan Community of Montreal (CMM).

The Dre Quach-Thanh believes that the effects of these new provisions will be felt around June 14, two weeks later. “We are not going to claim victory right away, but we are on the right track,” she said.

The Dre Cécile Tremblay, microbiologist-infectiologist at the University of Montreal, thinks that these new figures should convince Quebecers to continue their efforts to distance themselves. “It shows that it works,” she insists.

Other complications

On the first line, the number of hospitalizations decreased by 9, to a total of 972. And 128 people are in intensive care, one patient less.

The Montreal Jewish General Hospital intensivist Michel De Marchie is well placed to observe this decline, but he deplores another phenomenon. “Patients present with many more complications, especially people with cancer,” he says. The doctor added that the health of several had deteriorated since they were not taken care of early enough for fear of catching COVID-19.
