SuaraSumut.id – The mass of the Accumulated Anger of Workers and People (AKBAR) of North Sumatra held a demonstration in front of the Police Headquarters Field, Monday (21/10/2020) night.

They asked the police to release their colleague who was arrested during the action against the Omnibus Law on the Job Creation Law.

The masses initially held a demonstration at the fountain roundabout on Jalan Gatot Subroto, Medan. The action which was initially peaceful turned into a clash. Three demonstrators were arrested by the police and taken to the Medan Police Headquarters.

“One of those arrested named Fikri from the Indonesian Student Union (SMI) UMA, said he was involved in burning a car on Jalan Sekip. There were three people,” said one of the demonstrators.

After the three people were arrested, the crowd continued their action to the Medan Police Headquarters. They urged the police to release their arrested colleagues.

“This is a reflection of the state and government being anti-criticism and silencing freedom of expression,” said the North Sumatra AKBAR Coordinator, Martin Luis.

The legal team for AKBAR North Sumatra and Suara Rakyat, Maswan Tambak, said that one of the protesters was suspected of being involved in the burning of a police car on Jalan Sekip Medan on October 8, 2020.

“Two friends who were arrested will be released by the police. Meanwhile, one person must undergo a legal process,” said Maswan to representatives of the mass action.

After deliberating for a while, the masses finally agreed to disperse on the condition that the two captured masses would be released.

“Come on friends, we tidy up the line and wait for our friends to be released,” he concluded.
