Asheraden: Transition to telework is a step towards a digital party – in Latvia – News

Assessing the situation of the party “Vienotība”, the party leader pointed out that the situation in it has significantly improved and it can be assessed as good, even very good – the party ratings are stable, the number of party members is increasing every week.

“In order to ensure the work of the Unity Board in Covid-19, we have completely switched to remote operations, which surprisingly did not reduce members’ participation in board meetings, but increased, step by step digitizing our political activities and taking the first steps towards a digital party.” pointed out Asheraden.

She noted that the in-depth development of the digital party will ensure more active participation and involvement of both party members and party supporters in political decision-making, which will generally result in the party’s renewal and readiness for a successful start in the next elections, the New Unity (JV). ensure broad representation in all new municipalities.

Assessing the political environment in Latvia, Asheraden concluded that it is fragmented and will probably remain so for some time to come.

He emphasized that populism would not disappear from the political agenda so quickly, but rather would be reborn in new forms.

At the same time, it was acknowledged that the current government coalition, for which there seems to be no alternative, holds a huge potential for change, as evidenced by the government’s achievements. “The short-term overhaul of the financial system by Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš (JV) and Finance Minister Jānis Reirs (JV) saved Latvia from falling into the dark waters of the international financial supervision system’s black or gray list,” said the party leader.

Asheradent also highlighted Kariņš’s work at the European level, assessing the performance of the “Unity” ministers in the government. According to him, the Prime Minister’s performance at the European Leaders’ Summit, which decided on the European multiannual budget and the distribution of Covid-19 consequence funds, was outstanding.

“As a brilliant negotiator, Krišjānis managed to get the stuck joint negotiating leader out of place and a great funding position for Latvia. He proved himself to be an influential leader on the European political scene,” Asheraden emphasized.

At the same time, the party leader noted that it is crucial for the development of Riga to restore fair and responsible co-operation between Riga and the Latvian government. Asheraden told congressional delegates: “Sociological polls clearly show one extremely important narrative for voters:” we want to see a fair and responsible policy in Riga! “This is one of the priorities of our Riga leader Vilnius Kiris and I think he after the extraordinary elections to form a dynamic coalition in Riga and thus end the period of Byzantine rule in the capital of our country. “

At the end of the speech, the party leader called on the congress delegates and those present to show solidarity with the Belarusian people.

The events in Belarus and the recent event in Russia show Latvia how much Latvia has achieved, how many things are taken for granted.

“We have free and democratic elections, we sometimes have grumpy coalition partners and we have an opposition that breathes in the back of our hands. We have democracy. We have the rule of law. We are part of Europe. It is our sacred duty to improve, protect and help them in their daily work. who aspired to it, “stressed Asheraden.
