Asen Vassilev: They threw the state under the bus (Updated)

There is no contact with Slavi Trifonov, maybe a week before for the second time Mr. Karimanski will run for BNB chief

There may be a conversation, but when the thesis of one country is – you give us BGN 4 billion for the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works, otherwise there is no government, this conversation stops right there

For the last 2 weeks over 60 trucks with pesticide products have been stopped and returned, not allowed on the market

We did not expect what happened, said in “120 minutes” Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Asen Vassilev. We are in the process of updating, we did not expect to throw the state under the bus in the interest of truth.

We currently have an update on anti-crisis measures, increase in pensions, measures for high electricity prices, KPKONPI to start working, 22 laws must be adopted by the end of the year to receive the second tranche of funds under the recovery plan.

We worked normally and calmly with most of our colleagues, the problem came from the political leadership, as well as from the tension in the parliament, as every bill must be discussed, he added. The truth is that if we look at the legislative activity, the bills for the fight against corruption, for a change in the judiciary, with the exception of the closure of special justice, everything else has been stuck for a long time.

No talks have been held for the ITN ministers to remain in the government, Asen Vassilev added. “Personally, in a format where a majority gathers for a new government, I would invite some of them to work together because I think they are good professionals,” he said. He cited the resigned Minister of Sports Radostin Vassilev and the Minister of Energy Alexander Nikolov as examples, “said the Deputy Prime Minister.

There is no contact with Slavi Trifonov, perhaps a week before Mr. Karimanski’s candidacy for the second time for head of the BNB. This was the first case – the three parties opposed the candidacy, and the fourth asked to impose it. The answer that came is – we believe that Mr. Karimanski is the most perfect person for this position.

Whether we should rule or not, all voters should say it, not Mr. Trifonov, at the moment the deputies should say it. It is from him that the thesis comes that we are non-communicative, how we have no problem with the BSP, with “Democratic Bulgaria”, Vassilev asked.

There may be a conversation, but when the thesis of one country is – you give us BGN 4 billion for the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works, otherwise there is no government, this conversation stops right there, said the Deputy Prime Minister. The demand is BGN 3.9 billion over the record 2.2 billion they give, and to become a total of BGN 6 billion. There are reasons – there are roads that need to be built, but there are also budget restrictions. We had told Mr. Karadjov that it could not happen that there were BGN 2.2 billion, of which about BGN 100 million had been paid.

At the moment, the citizens are interested in controlling the prices, in increasing the incomes, in entering the anti-crisis measures, who should have quarreled with whom should not concern the Bulgarian people.

Last year there was an update even without a government and the parties were kicked out. I strongly believe that there are enough responsible deputies and that the budget will be updated now.

When asked that luxury houses were built with the money for roads, Vassilev answered that this is the work of the police and the prosecutor’s office. What we will finish next week is the work of a government commission, which is inspecting site by site, for which 1.2 billion levs will be paid. This will be made public on Tuesday-Wednesday.

BSP and Democratic Bulgaria supported Mr. Rashkov’s candidacy for KPKONPI. He has proven to be one of the people who really fights corruption and no one has been able to divert. The mafia is currently being fought in many different places. There are companies and flows of money that have been in the last 10-15 years, and some even more, absolutely deep in the administration and in everything that is happening. In the last 10 years there has been a private border of Captain Andreevo. What is most scandalous, coming to the border checkpoint, the laboratory opens and unseals the cargo, before and without the presence of the Customs Agency. As the laboratory works, BGN 100,000 is the revenue for the state, separately we have real border control. For the last 2 weeks over 60 trucks with pesticide products have been stopped and returned, not allowed on the market. There has not been a single such case in the last 10 years. This is a major breakthrough, because of which we could not enter Schengen, said Vassilev.

Regarding the budget update, Vassilev said they rely on revenue, not external debt. It was 2 billion lower than last year. The loan was to be taken at low interest rates, and the repayment is next year.

Talks on Northern Macedonia are non-stop and I think they already understand that the problem is not between Bulgaria and Northern Macedonia, but between Northern Macedonia and the EU. We will not move even a millimeter from the Bulgarian demands, Vassilev added.

We would not ask for a vote of confidence, Vassilev answered a question from the host. Our red line is that if we see someone stealing and we can’t stop them, my stay in power is meaningless. We are not afraid of elections, he added.

What we set as a task for the parliament – the updating of the budget with anti-crisis measures and pensions, the measure to keep the price of electricity low for business, the measures related to the fight against corruption, do not in any way suggest that MPs then support the government . This should happen regardless of whether or not there is a government, Vassilev explained.

From now on, what we are proposing to support the government are two simple things – for Bulgaria to become an absolutely full member of Europe and for the fight against corruption to be completed. It’s very simple – you or you want us to fight against money going uncontrollably to the construction business, against the atrocities of Kapitan Andreevo, the atrocities that occur in healthcare, against X number of leaks, which one by one stop the taps in the energy sector . Either you want us to fight this thing and take the state back and have enough money for a social program and education, or you do not want things to continue as they were and some 20 companies to collect billions from the Bulgarian treasury and those billions to go in bars and bundles. We are still in talks – we will see, summed up the Deputy Prime Minister.
