As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, 63% of the population has improved their hand washing habits, according to the “Strain Thermometer” survey of “Benu aptiekas”.

Survey data show that 34% of the population has not changed their hand washing habits as a result of Covid-19, 1% have deteriorated, but 2% of the population could not give a specific answer.

Overall, hand washing habits have improved in 64% of women, of which there has been a significant improvement of 35% and a slight improvement of 29%, compared with 63% of men, of whom 30% say their habits have improved and 33% a slight improvement.

Also, 35% of women and 33% of men did not change their hand washing habits under the influence of Covid-19, 1% of men had worsened them, and another 1% of women and 3% of men could not give a specific answer.

Comparing the data by the language spoken in the family, the data show that more often Latvians have improved their hand washing habits due to Covid-19 – among them this indicator is 65%, while among Russian-speakers – 57%.

34% of Latvians and 42% of Russians did not change their hand washing habits during the pandemic, but 1% of Latvians and the same number of Russians could not give a specific opinion.

Family doctor Zane Zitmane points out that although the prevalence of Covid-19 has now significantly decreased, proper hand washing always remains relevant. It is one of the simplest but most effective preventive measures to control infectious diseases. It helps protect against infections of the digestive tract and upper respiratory tract, including Covid-19, explains the doctor.

The survey was conducted in cooperation with the Internet research company Gemius, surveying 1,718 respondents.
