Arsenal midfielder Luis Munoz, 13, has shattered records by becoming the youngest player ever to appear in the UEFA Youth League.
The England Under-15 international came on as a substitute in the 85th minute of arsenal’s 4-2 victory over Bayern Munich on Wednesday, marking a historic moment for the club and the competition. Born in December 2011, Munoz is 13 years, 11 months, and 15 days old.
Munoz’s appearance surpasses the previous record held by Liam Payas, who played for Lincoln Red Imps at 14 years, three months, and one day old in September of last year. While typically a midfielder,Munoz entered the match as a forward.
The UEFA Youth League provides a platform for the under-19 teams of clubs participating in the UEFA Champions League, offering valuable experience to developing players.
This achievement follows Munoz’s recent success with Arsenal’s Under-16 squad, where he helped secure victory in the Premier League U16 National Finals against Aston Villa earlier this month.
the match against Bayern also saw a notable performance from 15-year-old Max Dowman, who scored two goals. Dowman himself made his Premier League debut in August at the age of 14 years, eight months, and 19 days.
Emerson Nwaneri, 15 and the brother of Arsenal first-team midfielder Ethan Nwaneri, also featured in the win, coming off the bench during the match.
Arsenal’s Youth League campaign has seen four losses in their first five games, leading to a reduced chance of progressing to the knockout stages. The inclusion of younger players against Bayern was intended to provide them with competitive exposure.
