Arruda says he is “sensitive” to media demand

The national director of public health, Dr Horacio Arruda, promises to try to find a solution in order to allow the media to access health facilities, under certain conditions.

In an open letter published on Tuesday, the leaders of the major newsrooms in the province denounced with one voice the difficulties of access to health facilities that journalists have been facing since the start of the pandemic.

The Minister of Health, Christian Dubé, who says he understands the reasons which led Public Health to adopt the current approach, asked Dr. Arruda to reassess his position.

“We are sensitive to demand”, reacted in a press briefing the national director of public health, at the invitation of Minister Dubé.

Dr Arruda explained that it is to protect circles, such as journalists, that constraints have been imposed.

“You will understand that a family which cannot go to see its own mother, seeing the journalists return, could ask itself questions”, he related.

“We will probably come up with a short-term solution,” assured Dr Arruda, for the sake of protecting press freedom.
