Arrest warrant of prosecutors for Lee Jae-myung’s illegal presidential election

Prosecutors have asked for an arrest warrant for Kim Yong, deputy director of the Institute for Democracy, who is a close associate of Lee Jae-myung, president of the Democratic Party of Korea.

The 3rd Anti-Corruption Investigation Division of the Seoul Central Prosecutor’s Office has requested an arrest warrant for Kim on charges of receiving 847 million won from development officials in Daejang-dong, including Dong-gyu Yoo, former head of Seongnam Urban Development Corporation, four times between April and August last year.

Prosecutors believe former chief Dong-gyu Yoo, along with attorneys Jeong Min-yong and Nam-wook, raised 847 million won in illegal political funds and Deputy Director Kim received around 600 million won.

At a time when the prosecution saw that the money had flown, the Democratic Party was preparing for the presidential election and Vice President Kim was in charge of organizational management and other duties as general manager at Lee Jae Representative Camp. -myung, who announced his candidacy in July last year.

The prosecution, which expanded the investigation from Daejang-dong Development Corruption to Wirye New Town Development Corruption, secured a statement from Yoo: “Deputy Director Yong Kim asked for 2 billion won for finance the presidential elections “and urgently arrested and investigated Kim.

Immediately after the arrest, Deputy Director Kim protested saying, “The accusation of receiving illegal funds is not true at all and the accusation is creating a crime without prosecution.”
