Around seven million infected people worldwide

According to calculations by the Reuters news agency, the number of people tested positive for Covid-19 worldwide rises to over seven million. This is mainly due to significant increases in Brazil and India. Almost eight billion people live on earth.

The United States is still most frequently affected with almost 1.9 million infections. The number of deaths rises to around 396,000. However, it can be assumed that the actual figures are higher. In some countries, for example, not all deceased are tested for the virus or deaths outside of hospitals are not counted. In some countries, official information can hardly be verified.

In the United States, the number of virus deaths rises again for the second day in a row. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports 1128 new cases, bringing the number of confirmed deaths to Covid-10 to 108,064. The increase was 1035 on Friday, 827 on Thursday, 1045 on Wednesday, and 761 on Tuesday.

Dutch mink killed due to infection

After the outbreak of Corona in mink, all fur animals on the affected farms in the Netherlands are killed. On Saturday, a company in Deurne in the east of the country with around 1,500 minks and their young was cleared. At least eight farms are affected. The Ministry of Agriculture had decided to clear it after at least two people had been infected with the virus by mink. Animal rights activists had tried to prevent the eviction with an injunction. However, a court had given the green light on Friday evening. The ministry fears that the fur animal farms could be a permanent source of infection. The animals are killed with a gas and the carcasses are then destroyed by a special company. The stables should then be disinfected. There are still around 150 fur farms in the Netherlands. From 2024, breeding mink is prohibited after a court decision.
