Around 20,000 jobs gone: Air Canada cuts every second job

The Canadian airline doesn’t believe in a quick recovery. That’s why Air Canada plans to cut 50 to 60 percent of jobs.

Air Canada employees are shaking on June 7th. Because then terminations will be sent. The airline said it would have to cut “about 50 to 60 percent” of the jobs, the staff said on Friday (May 15) in an internal release, according to the Canadian broadcaster CBC.

Air Canada has 38,000 jobs. Management expects to mine around 20,000 of them. This was the conclusion after a “fundamental review of what we have to do to successfully get out of this crisis and to start rebuilding our airline”.

«At least three years much smaller»

It flies to 62 destinations in Canada, 53 in the USA and 101 in the rest of the world.
