Three French soldiers were killed during an operation in Mali on Monday, announced the Elysee. They belonged to the 1st regiment of hunters of Thierville-sur-Meuse (Grand Est).
“Their armored vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device while they were participating in an operation in the Hombori region,” said the Elysee in a statement, giving the names of the three dead: Chief Brigadier Tanerii Mauri, 28 years old, hunter 1st class Quentin Pauchet, 21 years old and hunter 1st class Dorian Issakhanian, 23 years old.
According to Colonel Frédéric Barbry, spokesman for the army staff, the three soldiers were participating in an escort mission for a convoy of around thirty vehicles. They were in the same vehicle, a light armored vehicle. The explosive device was undoubtedly placed on the road. An investigation is underway.
