Armored Dinosurus, the Deaf Lazy Ancient Beast

TRIBUNNEWS.COM – Having confused experts, the Struthiosaurus austriacus fossil finally provides a new perspective on animals from the Late Cretaceous period.

A re-analysis of the fossils found that when they lived 80 million years ago, the dinosaurs tended to be slow to move and were also deaf.

The analysis was carried out using high-resolution 3D scans of the partial braincase sections of dinosaur skulls.

Researchers also use micro-CT, in which X-rays develop a detailed cross-section of an object to make a scan.

Citing Science Alert, Monday (17/1/2022) researcher found signs that dinosaurs lacked the brain capacity to focus on potential predators, because the small floccule part of the brain does this work.

It shows that the plates and nails on the body S.austriacus enough to survive other animals.

“S. austriacus probably relied more on its body armor for protection,” said Marco Schade, a paleontologist at the University of Greifswald in Germany.

Apart from these findings, researcher also reveal other interesting things.

A deeper scan of the braincase revealed a semicircular canal in the inner ear shaped in such a way, suggesting that this dinosaur was not the most agile of its kind.

This semicircular canal is the part of the ear that helps control balance movements.
