Daniela Lima Exits GloboNews Amidst Threats
Journalist’s Departure Follows Increased Persecution
Journalist Daniela Lima has been dismissed from GloboNews, a move that has prompted concern among colleagues and sparked discussions about her safety. The anchor, who joined the network’s flagship program in July 2023, had become a frequent target of online threats and harassment.
Life Under Siege
Sources close to Lima report a dramatic shift in her personal security. Her life reportedly became “infernal” following her transitions from CNN Brazil to GloboNews, with friends stating she has become a constant target. The intensity of these attacks has reportedly led Lima to travel exclusively by armored vehicle.
The severity of the situation has prompted some associates to advise Lima to step away from television, at least temporarily. Some suggestions include taking a “sabbatical” year until after the 2026 elections, allowing the current climate to subside.
Political Fallout and Network Statement
The journalist’s departure coincided with celebratory reactions from some opposition politicians. Allies of former president Jair Bolsonaro reportedly rejoiced at Lima‘s exit, citing her critiques of the former president’s administration and perceived closeness to Supreme Court justices.
In a statement, Globo cited “staff renewal” as the reason for Lima‘s departure. The network also announced that Eliane Cantanhêde and Mauro Paulino are no longer part of the GloboNews team. Globo expressed gratitude for their contributions to the analysis of significant political events.
“After two years, I leave GloboNews with the feeling of mission accomplished, head erected, thirsty for the next challenges. Long live the new!”
—Daniela Lima, Journalist
Lima herself commented on her exit, expressing a sense of fulfillment. She conveyed her gratitude to colleagues and friends, looking forward to future endeavors. Her departure comes as news organizations face increasing scrutiny and pressure, with reports indicating that online harassment against journalists remains a pervasive issue globally. For instance, a 2023 UNESCO report highlighted that approximately three-quarters of women journalists surveyed had experienced online abuse. (UNESCO 2023).

The network has reportedly already identified a replacement for Lima, though details have not been publicly disclosed.
