Vienna. At around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, the police were alerted that an armed man had entrenched himself in an apartment in Novaragasse, in the 2nd district. He is said to have threatened to shoot himself. The emergency services have largely blocked and closed the area around the alley near the Praterstern. They cannot confirm the rumor that the man had a grenade with him.
The police spokesman said the man had threatened to have a knife and a gun with him.
It is still unclear whether the man in the apartment himself alarmed the police or his partner, who is said to have received an SMS from him shortly before the incident.
