Arizona State University trains 600 middle and higher level teachers in Sonora

The governor of Sonora, Claudia Pavlovich, witnessed the virtual graduation of 600 teachers and coordinators of Upper Secondary and Higher Education of the entity’s educational system, graduates of the course “The era of active learning”, taught by Arizona State University (ASU ), as part of the coordination between Sonora and Arizona to seek better techniques that strengthen the training of Sonoran students.

Accompanied by the secretary of Education and Culture of the entity, Víctor Guerrero González, and the undersecretary of Higher and Higher Education, Onésimo Mariscales Delgadillo, Pavlovich thanked the participants from 10 institutions, (six from higher level and four from secondary education superior) for training in technological innovation to strengthen the education of Sonoran youth. “With this, the Sonora-Arizona mega-region continues to consolidate, providing opportunities that make students from these two border states more competitive.”

“Innovation and collaboration between universities on both sides of the border has been vital and the graduation of 600 teachers is part of that goal. I thank you for your work, dedication and perseverance; that is going to keep us in the first places in education ”, he expressed.

Governor Pavlovich recognized Michael M. Crow, president of Arizona State University (ASU), and his advisor, Rafael Rangel Sostmann, for promoting this initiative that benefits Sonora and Arizona and that will mark a before and an after for these 600 teachers and coordinators who complete their training.

Michael M. Crow and Rafael Rangel Sostmann agreed that this type of training contributes to reducing the gap between universities and high schools in both border states and that, by constantly innovating, great changes can be achieved in favor of education.

On behalf of the 600 teachers and coordinators, Paulina Jiménez Williams, a teacher at the Conalep Plantel Hermosillo II, affirmed that with the knowledge acquired in the course they will be able to improve the level of interest and learning of the students by adapting them to different branches of technology.
