Argentina cancels international sporting events due to Coruna

The Argentine government said today, Wednesday, that it had canceled international sporting events scheduled on its territory in March to curb the spread of the Corona virus.

Among the events affected by this decision are the South American Swimming Championships, an international fencing tournament, a qualifying competition for the boxing competition at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 and a continental athletics meeting.

Football matches in the Libertadores Cup, the Copa Sudamericana Cup and World Cup qualifiers scheduled for Argentina at the end of the month were not affected by this decision so far.

The decision comes on the same day the Confederation of South America announced that the Libertadores Cup and the Sudamericana Cup in Paraguay will be held without an audience in the next two weeks, in line with a government decision in Paraguay.

The FIFA said the FIFA would decide on the possibility of delaying ten matches in the South American World Cup qualifiers, scheduled for March 26-31.

The qualifiers include matches for Argentina and Brazil on their soil.
Argentina has revealed 19 cases of coronavirus and one death so far.
