Last Sunday, the leaders of three major energy companies, EDF, Engie and Total Energie appealed to the French to immediately reduce their consumption of fuel, gas and electricity. A call for sobriety justified according to them by the risk of shortage and soaring prices which would present a threat to “social cohesion” next winter.
“The best energy is that which we do not consume” added the three energy experts. And they’re not the only ones talking about it. A few days earlier, water companies made a similar appeal given the drought, and yesterday the High Council for the Climate felt that not enough was being done in terms of sobriety.
This evening, the telephone rings is therefore interested in this very present word: “sobriety”. What does it mean? Reduce our consumption? Avoid waste ? Changing our lifestyles? Should sobriety be individual, or stem from state policies?
