The futuristic line and the science fiction promise: Paradigm the electric car that never recharges. Nata da Aptera, thanks to the use of solar panels it promises up to 1,600 kilometers of autonomy on a single charge, an absolute record that pleases the public and investors. On the first front the car has already received seven thousand bookings, on the other it has closed a new round of funding for $ 4 million.

Like a spaceship
The rather low figure for a car manufacturer, trifles for the most famous brands, yet for Aptera it could be the real step forward. According to the US company the new factory in the Californian Sorrento Valley, around San Diego, by the end of the year it will start producing this curious vehicle that smacks of the future. Paradigm in fact not a traditional car transposed to electric but a vehicle specially designed to be moved by electrons. It resembles a spaceship, has two seats, three wheels and is all projected forward, with a large rear steering tire and two smaller, fixed ones, poking out of the nose in a Piper style.

The help of the sun
If in the normal version it reaches 400 kilometers on a single charge, in the Plus version it reaches 1,600 kilometers. The merit of the ultralight body in carbon fiber, kevlar and hemp joined to extreme aerodynamics which allows it to flow in the air while minimizing friction (the aerodynamic coefficient an impressive 0.13). The other secret is the solar panels. With sunny skies, Paradigm is able to obtain up to 64 kilometers of travel per day by channeling the free energy of our star to its 100 kWh batteries (the same as the flagship Tesla Model S, the 100D). Hence the idea of a car that never recharges: in areas kissed by the sun you can receive more energy than you use and thus the column becomes a memory.

A modular car
The other aspect that users liked was its modularity. Book the Paradigm how to buy a computer. You go online and start from the basic model to which you can then add engines (maximum three for a total of 150 kW), batteries (from 400 km of autonomy to 1,600 km), solar panels on the tail and hood (the one on the roof included ). So it starts from 25,900 dollars (21 thousand euros) to get to 48,300 dollars (40 thousand euros). Now it remains to be seen whether Aptera will be able to take the plunge and make Paradigm a reality. The release scheduled for the end of 2021, practically a whisker.
