The Romanian startup bonapp.eco launches the application that aims to combat food waste and through which consumers save up to 80% on food purchases. The company plans to expand to other countries in the region next year and save 30 million packages of products from waste by 2023.
”Grégoire Vigroux, business angel and serial entrepreneur with Diego Roy de Lachaise, former Senior Tech Consultant at KPMG, and Zsolt Kadar, former executive Apple, have launched bonapp.eco, a mobile application that aims to combat food waste by connecting consumers with traders whose food is approaching its expiration date.
The products will be sold at lower prices by 40% – 80%. The application is available on iOS and Android. The food is purchased with the card, through the application, from a network of 35 affiliated businesses in Bucharest. Currently the application includes supermarkets, hypermarkets, restaurants, shops, bakeries, cafes and hotels. The launch in other cities in Romania is planned for Q1 2022, while the expansion in other countries in the region will start in Q2 “, announce the representatives of bonapp.eco.
bonapp.eco estimates that the application has a market potential of five million users in Romania alone. The target user lives in an urban environment, has a bank account, wants to buy quality products and, at the same time, save money.
“Globally, 40% of the total amount of food is wasted, according to the World Wildlife Fund. Food waste alone is the cause of 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions.
In addition to exacerbating climate change, food waste is causing significant losses to retailers. In Romania, in a country where food is expensive, 5 million tons of food are thrown away every year. Romanian consumers allocate almost 40% of their budget for food and beverages!
bonapp.eco turns these environmental, economic and social challenges into a sustainable business opportunity for the benefit of all. Our solution is a win for consumers, a win-win for food traders and a win-win for the planet, ”said bonapp.eco co-founder Grégoire Vigroux.
Among the first partners to join the bonapp.eco network in Bucharest are Accor, Cora, foodpanda, PENNY Romania, Starbucks and Up (formerly called Chèque-Déjeuner), and other partnerships will be announced by the end of the year.
