Apple wants to ban the pear logo

Apple is trying to force the small business Prepear to give up its logo. It shows a pear. Apparently, Apple is too close to the apple.

Prepear is an app for collaborative cooking. She manages recipes and shopping lists and underlines the sociable character of cooking. In other words, it has no connection with Apple’s fields of activity.

Nevertheless, the Californian iPhone manufacturer wants to obtain a court injunction against Prepear, which means that the five-person small company is no longer allowed to use its logo, a drawn pear. The logo is too close to Apple’s registered trademark, the bitten apple. By the way, the pear is explained by the name component pear, the English word for pear.

The discreet observer will have difficulty recognizing what kind of problem the iPhone manufacturer is having with Prepears pear logo. The business purpose of the Koch app is not similar, nor does the logo look even remotely similar to that of Apple. How it should damage Apple’s brand, like the company according to Macrumors claims remains unclear.

Apple doesn’t like fruity logos on competitors

In the past, the Mountain View group has taken tough action against companies that have provided themselves with fruity names and logos. This is understandable insofar as a company has to defend its trademark in order not to lose it at some point. It seems that Apple has lost its sense of proportion.

The team behind Prepear doesn’t just want to bow down. Although they do not have the financial means to stand up to Apple in the legal dispute, that does not mean that they want to quietly submit.

Prepear startet Petition

So far, the dispute has already cost Prepear several thousand US dollars. One team member is said to have already been fired because of the costs of the litigation. Now Prepear wants to pull the public on board. One on Change.org started petition should achieve that Apple withdraws the competition complaint. At the time this article was published, around 16,000 supporters had already signed the petition.

With this, Prepear seems to achieve at least one thing, namely to generate public attention.
