A big biopic project on Will Smith was the subject of intense negotiations between several streaming services. But that was before the actor slapped the Oscars and Chris Rock’s cheek.
According to The Sun, Apple TV+ and Netflix have withdrawn their offers for the biographical film about the American star. According to an industry source, the services now prefer to bet on other projects with image actors “more family”as Michael B. Jordan (Creed) or Mike Epps (Very Bad Trip).
Apple has already spent an estimated $120 million on the rights toEmancipation, a film about slavery in which Will Smith plays the main role. Directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day), the film has been shot and is now in post-production. Its release is scheduled for this year on Apple TV+, but no specific date has yet been set.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fast and Loosea Netflix-produced thriller starring Will Smith, has been put on hiatus, and so will Bad Boys 4, produced by Sony. After slapping comedian Chris Rock for a bad joke about his wife, Will Smith apologized and resigned from the Academy of Oscars.
