Apple TV will be available on the next-generation PlayStation and Xbox consoles. This is a big problem.

Microsoft today announced that Apple TV will be available right off the gate for the Xbox Series X and S models, with the legacy Xbox One also getting support on November 10. A few weeks ago, Sony also shared that Apple TV will be included in the upcoming PS5 console launch as well as the PS4. This gives next-generation console owners the opportunity to access purchased content, original Apple TV +, and subscriber channels right from their game consoles. Sony and Microsoft don’t always need Apple, but PlayStation and Xbox do.

Over the past year, Apple has successfully launched its streaming products with newer titles and offerings such as customer bundle to Showtime and CBS All Access to attract users to its services. Already shooting movies old and new to increase the range of content offered by Apple TV +. With the launch, the service was mainly limited to Apple products, with a few exceptions, which previously made access to the service semi-exclusive. expand to more devices such as TVs during this year. But exclusivity and limited support outside of Apple’s own ecosystem doesn’t really make much sense for a meager service, as there are so many content services also competing for audiences and wallets.

On the other hand, it made sense that Apple wanted Apple TV on as many platforms and devices as possible to keep viewers busy – especially on its next-generation gaming consoles that could end up as set-top boxes. Sony has served The PS5 and Microsoft’s “lightning fast loading” version calls its X Series version the ‘fastest, most powerful Xbox ever’. A much faster game console could, if it booted up quickly, replace another system someone was using if they knew they could get the same programs and services on a next generation console. And that’s a huge boon for Apple, where the biggest worry is most likely to be with current customers when their free trials run out. (Recently expanded some free subscriptions to Apple TV + that expire in November through the end of next year.)

There are now too many services to list — most of them are fine compared to a smaller number which is actually good. The thing is, the service is just as good as the viewer’s ability to actually access it. And if Apple doesn’t meet the people on the screen and the devices from which they get the content, it’s only harming itself.
